According to data released in 2011 by the California Department of Education, “about 41 percent of Vallejo high school students dropped out during the four-year period ending with the 2009-10 school year. The same data also shows about a 50 percent graduation rate.” In efforts to improve the high school dropout rates, the Summer of Success Youth Enrichment Camp provides students not only supervision, but keep children’s minds active over the summer months, kids active, builds confidence and a positive attitude, allows youth to explore new interests and serve families as well.
The goal of the Summer of Success Summer Enrichment Camp is to expand academic enrichment and improve the high school dropout rates. This free Summer of Success camp is for youth entering grades 1-12. The program is in partnership with school districts and community-based organizations and through the program we offer academics, life skills, sports, creative arts and writing skill development. Due to the absence of African Americans in the STEM field, in this program we have taken students to tech companies such as Google, PayPal, and Caltrans to allow them the opportunity to learn more about careers in tech and have a hands-on view of what those careers look like.
